Pristionchus pacificus is a nematode (roundworm) in the family Diplogastridae. Its last common ancestor with Caenorhabditis elegans lived 200-300 Mio years ago. By studying Pristionchus we want to learn how development, i.e. the process during which a fertilized egg is tranformed into an adult organism, can be altered during the course of evolution. One main area of research concerns the vulva, an organ that is built out of only 20 cells with a defined cell lineage. Other research topics are e.g.
